Hey, Pixels! It’s crazy that 2019 is almost over and we’re about to start an entirely new DECADE. Can you believe it? In 2014, I started my blog and YouTube channel in my bedroom, as a little passion project. Now, with over 20K YouTube subscribers, and over a million video views later, I’m still as passionate about the creative industry and sharing my knowledge with you as I was five years ago. Throughout the year, I’ve been quietly working on various projects/content for XO PIXEL and I can’t wait to share them with you in 2020.
Now that 2019 is coming to a close, I would like to end the year on my blog by highlighting all my favorite moments and things in 2019.
My past year in reviews:
- Year In Review: 2018
- Year In Review: 2017
- Year In Review: 2016
- Year In Review: 2015
- Year In Review: 2014
In 2019, I was given the amazing opportunity to mentor hundreds of future UX/UI designers using my experience hosting the XD Daily Creative Challenge which allowed me to impart any wisdom gained over the years to budding designers. Sharing my knowledge with the world has always been a passion and I’m looking forward to stepping into that role a lot more in future.
This was a year for taking flight. I traveled to a few beautiful places. On my birthday, I went to South Beach, Miami and had the time of my life. The beach was beautiful, the weather was amazing (it didn’t rain at all) and the food was spectacular. I also had the opportunity to visit New York over the summer and Montreal, Quebec in the fall. Montreal was amazing the food and culture offered a taste of French cuisine in my own Canadian backyard.
This year, one of the most amazing shows I’ve ever watched on TV ended—Jane The Virgin. My love for the show is no secret and I’ve religiously watched it for the past five years. There were so many touching moments, life lessons, hilarious storylines, you name it. As crazy as the show could get, it still managed to be so relatable in many ways. It’s been a wild ride but sadly all good things must come to an end and end it did, but with endings create a space for new beginnings. While I have yet to find a show that tops Jane The Virgin, I’ll list some Netflix shows that I’ve really enjoyed this year:
- Dave Chappelle: Sticks & Stones
- Queer Eye
- I Feel Pretty
- Black Mirror (Season 5)
- Bad Moms
- My Hotter Half
- Grace and Frankie
Tech: eBook Reader
I’m a non-fiction kind of gal —I like books on personal development, business and of course, anything that will teach me a thing or two or make me better at my job. This year, I haven’t done as much reading as I would have liked. However, I’ve been reluctant to buy physical books because eBooks are more practical for me and environment-friendly. Not too long ago, I finally got myself a Kobo eBook reader. I can read more easily on the go, or regardless of the lighting situation. There are a lot of cool adjustments you can make with e-readers that you can’t really do with physical books. Not to mention, if you’re Canadian, you can actually borrow books from the Toronto Public Library—all you need is your library card!
This year, I watched some really interesting, funny and thought-provoking YouTube videos. Watch them below:
- Google—Year in Search 2019
- Liza On Demand – Season 2
- What $1,200 Will Get You In Texas
- 4 Levels of Mac and Cheese: Amateur to Food Scientist
