The best thing about the new year is the pursuit of changing for the better. Although, the whole “new year, new me” thing is not what I’m talking about. One of my major goals for 2015 is a lot more specific than that. During my winter break, I’ve been able to reflect on all the areas in my life that I’ve been working on and I’ve come to realize that my fashion has been completely lacking. My style and tastes have changed significantly, yet my wardrobe has not caught up to my current vision. Furthermore, graduation, work placements and other more professional situations are no longer in the distant future. Now, I think it’s wise for me to start upgrading my wardrobe now to prevent panic later on.

The steps that I will be taking to do this involves: (1) cleaning out my wardrobe and only keeping staple pieces, (2) Making a Pinterest board that reflects my current style, (3) Following the 5 Piece French Wardrobe method; purchasing no more than 5 quality items each season (fall-winter & spring/summer). FYI, basics (underwear, socks, etc.) don’t count.

Thanks to google, I’ve done in-depth research on various fabrics. That way, instead of purchasing something that simply looks good, I’m now looking for something of high quality, best suited for my needs, and also in tune with my style. Settling on clothing that I’m not 100% comfortable in is no longer an option. Impulse buying is out the window! From now on, only smart, educated, thought-out purchases will be made. I’ll definitely keep you all updated on my wardrobe cleanse for 2015. Stay tuned!

  1. I did a huge closet cleanse a couple weeks ago, and I feel so much better about what’s in my closet now! I couldn’t believe how many things I had in there that I never wear. I’m sticking to basics that can be worn a million ways and some quality pieces like jackets and pants. Still a work in progress though!

    1. That’s good to hear, Jessica. It’s interesting how we only wear a small portion of clothes compared to the total amout of clothes we own. But it’s great that you’ve made changes to make your closet more efficient. Keep it up!
